State level residential training programme on Bovine Infertility Mmanagement Posted on: 2011-06-30

A state level residential training programme on bovine infertility management conducted by iva kerala was held at livestock research station, thiruvizhamkunnu,palakkad on 24th and 25th of june 2011.the programme started with the veterinarian’s oath at 10 a.m. the training was inaugrated by Dr.K.R.ArunKumar,statepresident,IVA.Dr.M.Jayan,president,IVA,Palakkad presided over the function.Dr.K.N.AravindaGhosh,professorand head, Obstretics and Gynecology dept, COVAS,Mannuthy was the chief guest on the occassion.Dr. K.Anilkumar, asso.prof. &head, livestock research station, Thiruvizhamkunnu delivered the key note address.Dr.Laiju.M.Pphilip, course co-ordinator had enumerated the course contents.Dr.P.Harinarayanan,secretary,KVSSA,Palakkad & Dr.Francis Bastin,SVS ,VPC,Mannarkkad offered felicitations.Dr.Syed Aboobacker Sidhique, secretary,IVA,Palakkad did the welcome note.Dr.S.Ramkumar,treasurer,IVA,Palakkad offered  the vote of thanks. 
Dr. K.N.Aravinda Ghosh,professor and head, Obstretics and Gynecology dept,COVAS, mannuthy, Dr K S Ajith , Asst.professor livestock research station, Thiruvizhamkunnu, Dr. R.S.Abhilash, Aasst.professor livestock research station, Thiruvizhamkunnu handled the technical sessions on the first day which included both theory and farm practice.
The second day started with hands-on training in farm animals. Later pregnancy diagnosis using ultra sound scanning was demonstrated by Dr.Hiron.M.Harshan, Asst.professor. Obstretics and Gynecology dept, COVAS,Mannuthy. 
The training concluded with a valedictory fuction presided over by Dr.K.Anilkumar,Asso.professor & head,livestock research station, Thiruvizhamkunnu.The trainees expressed their feedback about the training.Dr Biju S,Asst.Professor,livestock research station, Thiruvizhamkunnu addressed the trainees. Dr. K.Anilkumar, Asso.professor & head,  livestock research station, Thiruvizhamkunnu gave away the certificates to the trainees Dr. Syed Aboobacker Sidhique, secretary,IVA,Palakkad welcomed the group.Dr.S.Ramkumar, treasurer,IVA,Palakkad offered  the vote of thanks.

A state level workshop on Road Map for Animal Husbandry for next 5yrs was conducted at Hotel HarithaGiri Kalpetta on 14-6-2011.The workshop was inaugurated by Hon.Minister Sri.K P Mohanan in a function presided over by Sri Sreyamskumar (MLA).The Keynote address was done by Dr.B Ashok( Vice chancellor,Kerala Veterinary and animal sciences University,Pookot).There was presentations and discussions on following topics by experts.Dr K R Arun Kumar ( President IVA,Kerala ) was the Moderator
-Breeding policy next step (Dr Sosamma Ipe)
-Opportunities and challenges of livestock farming in Kerala (Dr Ani S Das,Managing Director,KLDB)
-Feeding Practices (Dr Biju Chacko,Asso.Professor,COVAS,Pookot)

Foreign training in the area of stem cell research to Dr K Raji Posted on: 2011-06-08

Dr.K. Raji, Asst. Professor, Department of Veterinary Physiology,College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Pookot. is undergoing foreign training in the area of stem cell research in the lab of Dr. Vivek M. Tanavade, Principal Investigator, Genome and Gene Expression Analysis Division, Bioinformatics Institute, Agency for Science Technology and Research (A*STAR), Matrix, Singapore from May 18, 2011 to August 15, 2001. In addition she will also be trained in the laboratory of Dr. Prabha Sampath at the Institute for Medical Biology, A*STAR. Dr. Prabha Sampaths laboratory focuses on translational regulation of gene expression in differentiating embryonic stem cells and culturing and characterizing embryonic stem cells.
 This training is approved under HRD progrmmme of NAIP under Component I of NAIP. She is first scientist of KVASU to get a foreign deputation for training under Component I of NAIP. Congratulations to Dr. K. Raji
