WORLD ZOONOSIS DAY COMMEMORATION AT  FORTUNE,NADAKAVU,KOZHIKODE ON 6-7-2009

The World Zoonosis day was commemorated in a befitting manner at Calicut, under the joint auspices of Indian Veterinary Association, Kerala Veterinary Surgeons Service Association,  Kerala Veterinary Council, and the Dept of Animal Husbandry, at Hotel Fortune Calicut on 6th  July 2009 . The programme was inaugurated by Dr A P S Nair, President IVA Kerala . Dr Figi Ferdinand Francis, General Secretary of IVA, presided over the function. The gathering also witnessed Dr K V Ashokan memorial award distribution. Dr P P Balakrishnan Former Associate Dean of College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Pookot, presented this award to Dr N N Sasi, Registrar of  Kerala Veterinary Council.
Dr PP Balakrishnan also delivered the Dr K V Ashokan Memorial Lecture. Dr K D Paul represented Dr Ashokan memorial trust and spoke regarding the Objective of the existence of this trust and highlighted the significance of Dr K V Ashokan memorial Award. During this function Dr K Udayvarman,  President of KSVC released the latest issue of JIVA.
Kumari Gayathri, daughter of Dr A S Vijaya kumar, APO , RAIC, Chalakudy was presented with a memento as  a token of appreciation and   recognition of her splendid academic brilliance, for securing 1st rank in  CBSE ,10th std examination in the Chennai Region. The Award was presented by the State IVA president.

 Dr N N Sasi was the moderator of the Seminar Session.. The theme topic of this year World Zoonosis day commemoration was Swine Flu. Various aspects of this disease was handled and discussed by eminent faculty members, representing Veterinary College Mannuthy and Pookot as well as Medical College, Calicut. Dr N Divakaran Nair, Professor, Dept of Veterinary Pathology, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy took the first session on “an overview of Swine flu” The next session was handled by Dr . Latha .C , Associate Professor , Dept of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Pookot on “Prevention and control of Meat born Zoonotic diseases with special relevance to Swine Flu”. The final session was delivered by Dr Jaykrishnan, Associate Professor, Dept of Social and Community Medicine, Medical College Calicut on “Epidemiology of Swine flu”.
The programme was attended by more than 200 delegates representing various Dist of our State. excellent coverage and publicity for this programme was given by all leading Newspaper and visual Medias.
Dr AV Prasad, Dist President of IVA offered the Welcome address and the programme was concluded at 5 pm with  a thanks giving speech delivered by Dr Anil Kumar Nair, Dist Secretary of IVA Kozhikode.
