Report for: STRATEGIES FOR ANIMAL RABIES CONTROL
Courtesy : Dr. Rani s.s & Dr. Jacob Alexander
Rabies continues to be one of the important public health problems and annually around 40-50 people die in this most literate state. Number of dog bites in man and animals is on an escalating scale, as we are not having an effective animal control programme. Over and above the economical burden to the bite victims and government for treatment cost, the physical and psychological trauma of such persons are enormous. It is indeed a disgrace to a civilized society when proven control measures exist, but who should take the lead role? We are the right persons who can give permanent solution to this public health problem. Government of Kerala aims to control Rabies by 2015 in human. A comprehensive and integrated rabies control programme is likely to be implemented in our state shortly. In this backdrop, we have to prepare ourselves about the strategies practically possible at our level. Please participate in this opinion poll and offer your valid suggestions to submit a draft strategy plan to the department.
